This evocative painting captures the mystical beauty of the Calanais Standing Stones on the Isle of Lewis under a dramatic winter sky.
Rendered in rich, textured oil paints, the piece features hand-applied gold leaf along the horizon, creating a luminous, shimmering effect that mimics the glow of a setting sun.
The ancient Neolithic monoliths stand in sharp silhouette against a vibrant gradient of deep twilight blue and fiery orange. In the foreground, a stark, snowy landscape is punctuated by tufts of hardy island grass, lending a sense of cold, quiet majesty to the scene. The contrast between the chilled white terrain and the radiant golden sky evokes a sense of timelessness and Hebridean magic.
